Sun Media Announces Appointment of Yvan Gingras as Chief Operating Officer

May 3, 2009

Former Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations, and Chief Financial Officer of Videotron returns to Quebecor Media

Montréal, March 5, 2009 - Mr. Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor and of Sun Media, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Yvan Gingras to the position of Chief Operating Officer of Sun Media, Canada’s largest newspaper publisher. Mr. Gingras will be a strong addition to accelerate the changes already underway at Sun Media to adapt the business model at a time of fundamental changes in the newspaper industry, focusing on its business processes, cost structure and productivity improvement plan, while seizing revenue growth opportunities.

“Our Newspapers segment is contending with a significant drop in advertising revenues, aggravated by the tough economic environment,” said Mr. Péladeau. “Its business model must be entirely overhauled. In the present circumstances, the experience of a manager and leader of Yvan Gingras’ calibre will be a valuable asset for Sun Media.”

“To enhance our productivity and cut our costs, forceful action must be taken, such as consolidating certain operations not related to editorial content,” said Mr. Péladeau. “Yvan Gingras is the man for the job: after Videotron was taken over by Quebecor Media in 2000, Yvan joined my team to revisit all of Videotron’s business processes and played an instrumental role in its success. I am proud to be able to say that I spotted Yvan’s managerial talents when he was working at Donohue, a Quebecor subsidiary until 2000. I am confident he will make a vital contribution at a time when we need to restructure Sun Media, increase our profit margins, and reinvent ourselves, as we did with Videotron.”

Mr. Gingras joins the Sun Media team today, reporting directly to Mr. Péladeau. He will have direct responsibility for the Industrial Operations, Finance and IT departments and will spearhead major special initiatives related to corporate projects.
Yvan Gingras has more than 30 years of business experience. He joined Videotron in 2001 as Senior Vice President of Administration. He was named Executive Vice President, Finance and Operations, in 2003 and Chief Financial Officer in 2005. He quickly acquired a reputation as a tireless worker, a strong leader and a manager of rare integrity. He made a key contribution to achieving Videotron’s vision and successfully implementing major corporate projects such as the introduction of cable telephone service and the 3G project. Prior to joining Videotron, Mr. Gingras worked for Donohue Inc. for 20 years in a variety of functions, including Vice President, Administration and Business Development, until the company was acquired by Abitibi Consolidated. He served as Vice President and Controller of Abitibi Consolidated, where he was actively involved in introducing a new corporate structure and control system.
