History
TVA Group Inc. was founded in 1960 under the name Télé-Métropole Inc. Today, it is the largest private producer and broadcaster of French-language entertainment, news and public affairs programming in the Americas.
BROADCASTING
The TVA network has been on the air since February 19, 1961. Today, it dominates the French-language television market in Canada.
On September 8, 1997, TVA launched its first specialty channel, Le Canal Nouvelles TVA (LCN), a 24-hour all-news station that uses unique technology to permanently display sports results, weather forecasts, stock quotes, lottery results and headlines. LCN has Canada's first fully digital newsroom. Other specialty services followed, including Canal Évasion, the Indigo pay-per-view service, and the digital specialty channels mentv, Mystery, Mystère, Argent and Prise 2.
PUBLISHING
In January 2000, TVA Group acquired all the shares of Trustar Limited, the leading Québec magazine publisher. In 2002, Publicor and TVA Publishing were merged and their operations integrated to create the largest magazine group in Québec. Today, TVA Publishing publishes popular books and magazines niched in entertainment, television and the Internet.
HOME SHOPPING
On May 1, 1999, TVA Group launched Club TVAchats, a Québec-based specialty channel devoted to infomercials and home shopping. Since 2003, TVA Group has been sole owner of TVAchats, a producer of quality infomercials.
