Montréal, April 2, 2009 - Quebecor is pleased to renew its partnership with Earth Day Québec for a third year and to continue the "Allo la Terre" program, which has recovered more than 30,000 cell phones in under a year, making it one of the most successful recovery programs in Canada. All profits from the sale and recycling of the phones go to support Earth Day Québec's green belt projects, which help preserve biodiversity by reconnecting natural habitats.

"By using its network of 193 Le SuperClub Vidéotron stores and 26 Videotron stores and counters to support this program, and promoting it through a large-scale campaign in its media outlets, Quebecor has helped us achieve two concrete goals: diverting more than 30,000 cell phones from landfill sites and funding our 'green belts' tree planting program," said Pierre Lussier, Executive Director of Earth Day Québec. "We thank them and we are very pleased to have their support again this year."

"Environmental responsibility is part and parcel of Quebecor's core values, as the initiatives we have launched in partnership with Earth Day demonstrate," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor. "These are concrete efforts that have a significant impact on the environment. I am very gratified that our media outlets and our subsidiaries have been able to use their close relationship with the public to make the 'Allo la Terre' recycling program such a success."

Again this year, Quebecor will conduct a mutlimedia campaign in its media outlets to encourage the public to dispose of cell phones in an environmentally responsible manner. Old cell phones of any make or model can be deposited in the recycling bins installed at Videotron stores and Le SuperClub Vidéotron locations. Well-known singer-songwriter Daniel Boucher will be the spokesperson for the campaign again this year.

Archambault gets with the program
The 15 Archambault stores in Québec are joining the "Allo la Terre" program and will begin collecting mobile handsets and accessories on April 7. Archambault has also announced that as of August 1, customers who request a single-use plastic bag at checkout will be charged 10 cents per bag, with all proceeds going to Earth Day Québec. In addition, Archambault will contribute all profits from the sale of its re-usable bags to Earth Day Québec. Finally, throughout the month of April, it will contribute 10% of the profits from the sale of selected environmentally themed books and DVDs to Earth Day. For the list of selected products, visit www.archambault.ca.

Quebecor's partnership with Earth Day has also led to a number of other environmental initiatives by its subsidiaries.

150,000+ subscribers to Videotron online billing and equal number of trees planted
Videotron is continuing its partnership with Earth Day and renewing its invitation to its customers to decline paper invoices and sign up for online billing. For every customer who agrees to receive their invoice via the Internet rather than by mail, Videotron will fund the planting of a tree by Earth Day Québec. So far, more than 154,000 Videotron customers have opted for online billing, resulting in the planting of as many trees and annual savings of approximately 3 million sheets of paper. Details on the trees planted to date are available at www.videotron.com/onlineinvoice.

The trees are being planted as part of the United Nations Environment Programme's Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign. The goal is to plant at least one billion trees around the world each year. Videotron's involvement encourages Quebecers to do the environmentally responsible thing by making a simple change in their behaviour. Videotron customers can sign up for online billing at www.videotron.com/onlineinvoice or by dialling 1-88-videotron.

Environment special on TVA on April 22
On April 22, when Earth Day is celebrated around the world, the TVA Network's programming will be devoted largely to the environment.

TVA is also renewing the "De moi vert toi" environmental giving project, under which members of the public can obtain objects that belonged to 22 artists. People have until April 22 to go to www.tva.canoe.ca and explain how they plan to give their coveted object a second life. TV host and contest spokesperson Eve-Marie Lortie, accompanied by the artists, will present some of the items to the viewers whose suggestions most impressed the Earth Day selection committee.

Quebecor Media Book Group saves equivalent of 25 500 trees per year
On April 14, Les Éditions de l'Homme will launch the book Le Québec au fil de l'Eau by Mathieu Dupuis and Marie-José Auclair. The collection of magnificent photographs taken in Québec, accompanied by a preface by Earth Day Québec spokesperson Jacques Languirand, is a tribute to the beauty of water and a reminder of its fragility. It is the first book of colour photographs to be printed on paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre. Le Québec au fil de l'Eau is also one of Archambault's selection of "green" products; 10% of the profits from the sale of these products will go to Earth Day Québec.

All books published in black and white by Quebecor Media Book Group are printed on recycled paper made of 100% post-consumer fibre. As Quebecor's books segment is the largest publisher and distributor of French-language books in Québec and Canada, this move has had a substantial environmental impact, saving the equivalent of 25,500 trees per year.

More than 40% recycled materials in MediaPages directories
MediaPages, another subsidiary of Quebecor Media, is also taking concrete action to support the environment and working to improve its practices on an ongoing basis. The directories it publishes are made of more than 40% recycled materials; the remainder of the content is wood shavings, which normally go to waste. As well, the full content of the directories is available online at www.mediapages.ca. MediaPages carefully calculates the print run of its directories to avoid waste.

As these initiatives show, Quebecor and its subsidiaries continue to act on their commitment to sustainable development. Their partnership with Earth Day Québec is also helping that organization pursue its mission of promoting practical efforts to save the environment.
