Quebecor partners with Société de transport de Laval

Quebecor and the Société de transport de Laval (STL) are pleased to announce a new 20-year partnership: beginning August 1, 2014, Quebecor will manage advertising on the STL’s transit shelter network.

The STL is very happy with this new agreement, said STL Chair David De Cotis. It will enable us to expand our network of bus shelters and also boost shelter advertising revenues. Partnering with Quebecor and building more bus shelters means we can better serve our ridership. It fits with our mission to improve Laval residents’ quality of life.

This agreement will strengthen our position in out-of-home advertising, a fast-growing market. At Quebecor we believe in harnessing the power of innovation through our people’s creativity. We’re proud to put our expertise to work with STL. Together we will develop the full advertising and promotional potential of Laval’s network of transit shelters and make the shift to digital in the years ahead.

Pierre Dion President and CEO of Quebecor

This contract with STL is great news, commented Claude Foisy, Vice President of Quebecor Media Out of Home. We already manage Montréal’s network of transit shelters, and now we can offer our clients a much wider array of out of home advertising options. From small local businesses to large national firms, it’s a great advertising platform that really gets you close to consumers.

Digital transit shelters: coming soon

The first step will be for Quebecor to take over advertising operations for Laval’s current network of 101 bus shelters — a number the company wants to increase to close to 300. Quebecor will also help STL bring its transit shelters into the 2.0 era by installing five interactive shelters equipped with 84-inch screens with gesture recognition technology. Users can view bus schedules and detailed maps of the whole transit network in real time. For advertisers the screens offer a wealth of creative media opportunities, from dynamic information feeds to video. The technology has been in use in Montréal since last year and has been a success with both transit users and advertisers.

Greener, cleaner, safer

In keeping with its commitment to offering quality service and a superior user experience, Quebecor will maintain the bus shelters to the most stringent industry standards. Bus shelter lighting will be upgraded to LED technology, an energy-efficient choice that also provides a safer nighttime environment for public transit users.

Quebecor was awarded this contract following a call for tenders issued last spring by the Société de transport de Laval.
