Pierre Karl Péladeau receives honorary doctorate from Université de Montréal

Update

On August 21, Université de Montréal awarded an honorary doctorate, one of its highest distinctions, to Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor. It was presented by UdeM Rector Daniel Jutras in recognition of Mr. Péladeau’s professional and business achievements and his contribution to the development of Québec.

A visionary business leader, generous philanthropist and engaged citizen, Mr. Péladeau has worked tirelessly over the years to transform the family business founded by his father, Pierre Péladeau, in 1965 into a Canadian leader in telecommunications, media and entertainment. Recognized for his unwavering commitment to Québec culture, he has steadfastly supported and promoted talented artists and creators, showcasing the richness of our culture, language, history and heritage. He initiated Quebecor’s largest philanthropic project, Éléphant: The Memory of Québec Cinema. Today, under his visionary leadership, Quebecor supports more than 400 organizations across Québec in vital fields such as health, education, the environment, entrepreneurship and culture.

Pierre Karl Péladeau is a strong and bold leader with keen business acumen who has made a remarkable contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of our society. He has been a major figure in Québec philanthropy, having made donations of $15 million to the CHUM, $40 million to Université de Montréal and $20 million to Université Laval, to name a few. He established the Pierre Péladeau Scholarships, which have been providing financial support to help Québec’s student entrepreneurs start up businesses for more than 25 years. On behalf of Quebecor’s board, I warmly congratulate Pierre Karl on this great honour bestowed upon him by Université de Montréal.
