Jannick Deslauriers: the strength and fragility of contrasts
Born in Joliette in 1983, Jannick Deslauriers earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 2008. After teaching visual arts at Cégep Marie-Victorin for several years, she continued her studies at the Yale School of Art in Connecticut, where she obtained a Master’s degree in 2022. The prestigious institution awarded her the Susan H. Whedon Award, recognizing outstanding work in sculpture.
In addition to being part of the permanent collections of the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Deslauriers’ installations have been exhibited in several countries, including Germany, Switzerland, France, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, and Italy.
Highlighting the tension between what fascinates us and what frightens us, her works reflect our own vulnerability by combining heavy materials such as steel with the delicacy of textiles. Often disrupted and fragmented, the objects at the heart of her sculptures confront us with our fears, our absences, our memories, and our fragility.
The public is invited to visit the exhibition until September 11.
