Quebecor is proud to be associated with the Festival du nouveau cinéma de Montréal (FNC) for the 6th consecutive year as the presenting sponsor. The unique movie festival's 43rd edition, to be held from October 8 to 19, 2014, will screen more than 300 films from Québec and around the world. Quebecor is pleased to award the Louve d'Orto the best film in the International Competition, selected by a jury of professionals.

We are proud to back the Festival du nouveau cinéma de Montréal. Quebecor is strongly committed to making cinema accessible; this is a cultural cause that is particularly close to our hearts. We appreciate this festival’s rich and bold programming and spirit of innovation. It unveils new cinematic worlds crafted in Québec and elsewhere, movies that cast an original and incisive gaze on our society. In addition to providing financial support, Quebecor is backing the festival with a promotional campaign in its media outlets, including Le Journal de Montréal, 24 Heures, the TVA Network, STM bus shelters, as well as the Yoopa channel, which will promote the FNC's children's programming.

 

Quebecor has been helping to bring movies to the people for years. In addition to the FNC, it sponsors the World Film Festival and the Festival du Cinéma de la Ville de Québec.

Launch of Éléphant ClassiQ at the FNC

Quebecor and Éléphant: The memory of Québec cinema are also very proud to launch Éléphant ClassiQ, a festival within a festival to be held as part of the FNC. Éléphant ClassiQ is a film festival devoted to restored and digitized movies from the world’s cinematic heritage. In the first edition of Éléphant ClassiQ, five films will be screened, including three Québec films from the Éléphant collection and one each from France and the U.S.

 

We are also very proud to launch Éléphant ClassiQ, a festival that will help bring our cinematic heritage to as many people as possible, said Pierre Dion. Making the restored and digitized films accessible was one of Quebecor’s objectives in creating Éléphant: The memory of Québec cinema.

Saturday, October 11, 1 p.m. — Former NFB Cinérobothèque

• Two visions of war. Two films about the Second World War: Tit-Coq (1953) by Gratien Gélinas, followed by The Big Red One: The Reconstruction (1982) by Sam Fuller.
• Between the two screenings, a panel discussion moderated by historian André Champagne and including Brigadier General Gaston Côté will be held.

Sunday, October 12, 1 p.m. — Former NFB Cinérobothèque

• Le jour se lève (1939) by Marcel Carné, starring Jean Gabin.

Tuesday, October 14, 9 p.m. — Former NFB Cinérobothèque

• Liste noire (1995), Jean-Marc Vallée’s first film.

Éléphant: The memory of Québec cinema, launched and fully funded by Quebecor, is a large-scale project to restore and digitize in HD all the feature films ever made in Québec, and to make them available to the public as they are digitized.To date, nearly 225 films have been made available, in the original version with subtitles, on iTunes in Canada, the U.S., France and all other European and African countries where French or English is one of the official languages.
